Video Games & OSP - CSP 2: Kim Kardashian Hollywood

Language:

1) The objective is to create your own aspiring celebrity and rise to fame and fortune

2) The ranking is determined by the position on the Top Stars list in Hollywood. They are sorted into six different lists, Unlisted being the lowest rank to the A-list being the highest rank, and you rise up in ranks by gaining fans. The goal of Kim Kardashian: Hollywood is to gain as many fans as possible by doing well on projects, getting attention from Starnews, and dating to get to the A-list.

3) There are collectibles and missions that will allow you to develop the status of your customisable character, in order to work your way up the celebrity scale from Z-List to A-List. There are a range of locations in the game that try to mirror the stereotype of the celebrity lifestyle of an A-lister.

4) The characters in Kim Kardashian: Hollywood are a mixture of real VIP characters and fictional characters. They appear in goals or locations and the storyline as you progress

5) Special Events are temporary goal arcs that are available only during Weekend Events in the game. By completing them, players cannot only earn Cash Cash, XP, Energy and Stars, but also Special Event stars. These regularly happen and keep the game fresh.  It also means established players keep coming back to the game to see what the latest updated events are.

Representations:

1) They are treated as just objects of male desire that use their appearance and status to flirt so that can gain popularity.

2) The game has been praised for its representation of race, ethnicity and sexuality, with the game offering a diverse range of characters.

3) It offers a representation of women focusing on appearance, modelling and dating as a way to be successful. However, as many protagonists are female, the representations of them are more widely-available.

4) The game suggests superficial representations and celebrity is represented as something to aspire to even without an obvious talent or ability.

5) They are presented in a very stereotypical way, meaning that people are idealised and seen as superior to other people.

Audience:

1) The intended audience is young women and teenage girls, as the game tends to focus on beauty and image, which are specifically targeted towards women.

2) Diversion - the audience can escape from normal day-to-day life.

Personal identity - the audience may see their own beliefs and values reflected within the game.

Personal relationships - the audience may form a relationship with the characters as they see aspects of their own lifestyle in the game. As a result, they tend to revere and look up to these figures and celebrities.

Surveillance - can learn more about the celebrity lifestyle and Hollywood, as well as the locations in the game.

3) The first reason is because of branding. Kim Kardashian's star power gives the game a significant advantage. She has a sustained following which allows this game to have a significant advantage in visibility. The second reasoning is because of the industry and publishing of the game. Glu Mobile has a very large network of quality users that play their games and give themselves a strong download burst without costs from banner adverts.

4)He thinks that game is very successful because of the psychological aesthetic that the game is offering to its players. As the player is working their way to the top, the game has created a narrative that is well integrated into the narrative and doesn't feel out of place or forced.

5) It works hard to satisfy that need for social recognition and fantasy adventure in being a celebrity. It has good retention because it doesn't break emergence.

Industries:

1) The game is free to play.

2) It has in-app purchases and in-game subscriptions and memberships that the user can buy.

3) Gold, which is $49.99 USD per month, silver, which is $19.99 USD per month, and bronze, which is $4.99 USD per month.

4) It was promoted on Kim Kardashian's social media and on Keeping Up With The Kardashians, meaning that those with brand loyalty to Kim Kardashian were more likely to play it.

5) She promotes it across many of her social media platforms and on her television program, meaning that many users would see it and have the game promoted to them. By doing this, she creates a brand of her name and identity to which people can pay for, identify with or want to become like.
