Preliminary Exercise Feedback And Learner Response

Preliminary Exercise Feedback And Learner Response

1) WWW:

You have displayed some excellent editing and technical skills throughout this preliminary exercise. Lovely angles and shots coupled with some really good acting especially from your part.

EBI:

The biggest improvement needs to be ensuring you film content outside of school to establish the fantasy genre and not limit yourself to filming at school; this will improve the overall quality of your coursework project. The other thing to work on is using audio to further establish your genre e.g. fantasy soundtrack behind the chase scene.

2) WWW:

- The filming went especially well as we managed to get a lot of shots done in a short space of time. This was useful when it came to editing, as we didn't need to worry about having a limited number. Additionally, it provided us with a wider variety to work with and proved to give us more creative freedom.

- The editing went really well because I had a lot of shots to work with. Working on the software was also especially good; using it was much easier than anticipated and it helped to structure everything easily.

- Being able to determine camera shots and angles, and having that kind of freedom when it came to filming was really helpful. It helped us to actively prepare for the coursework because it provided us with some ideas on what we might want to pursue in the future.

EBI:

- Working on sound and effects would definitely help to strengthen the integrity of the clip and make it more believable. Additionally, it could help to control the pace and speed of the action and the different cuts of match-on action.

- Filming in more areas of dimly-lit and shadowed places might be useful to fit the intended outcomes of filming. Additionally, filming in places that fit the genre might help to make it more believable for the audience.

- Having more time may be useful. Although we managed to get a lot done in a short space of time, filming over a few hours might help us to create more shots and more angles. Especially towards the end of filming, we had only one or two angles for each shot, which might not establish the pace as well as possible.

3) Personally, I've learnt how to structure the scene more effectively and understand the concept of filming a lot more effectively than if I had not done the preliminary exercise. Also, I think that the exercise has helped me to understand how filming can also link to the editing, and seeing clips transform into the parts required for the clip has been helpful for the coursework.
