Camerawork: Doctor Who, The Stolen Earth



Camera Shots:

1) The opening two-shot introduces the characters and gives the audience a sense of who the characters are and a background introduction on their names and jobs. In addition, it keeps the audience interested as the shots jump between characters and their dialogue perfectly demonstrates key information that is necessary to the clip and environment. 

2) The close-up at 0:43 brings into focus Dr. Jones and her significance as a character. It also draws interest from the audience as to the information about Jones and what her focus and background may be about. It zooms in on her surprised and attentive expression, which may help the audience to further sympathise and gain an understanding of her as a character. 

3) The cut-in at 2:42 brings into light the props used in the scene to further understand the characters' purpose and the mission that they are going on that the audience can see. In addition, the props are used to help the audience understand key traits of the characters and the task they are doing. 

Camera Angles:

1) The use of the low angle at 3:19 perfectly presents the intelligence of the character, who is doing the task instructed of her. It also further focuses on the props and research being done by the characters to make the audience understand just how complicated the characters and work being done are. 

Mise-En-Scène:

1) The setting further helps the audience to glimpse the sci-fi genre and how this links into the characters and action of the scene. In addition, the props help to reinforce this and the use of computers also helps the audience to understand how vital each prop is to the characters and scene. This communicates the genre and themes of the clip effectively to help the reader further understand the characters and actors being mentioned.
