OSP: Introduction to influencers

OSP: Introduction to influencers

1) YouTube was launched in 2005, Instagram launched in 2010 and Twitter launched in 2006.

2) An influencer is someone on social media who has established credibility in an industry. These content creators have access to a large audience, and share information to persuade others through their character and integrity as a famous star.

3) An example of an influencer is Kylie Jenner, who has around four hundred million followers on Instagram. She is particularly influential in terms of beauty, lifestyle and fitness. She has her own cosmetics brand and is involved in many reality television shows.

4)  By the end of 2019, the influencer marketing industry was worth around eight billion per year. It has many users, and a wide variety of people on their platforms.

5) There is a lot of time spent preparing and editing, and negotiating for payment can be difficult. Additionally, looking to constantly increase your follower count may be quite stressful.

6) It is shown to be a sign of success. The more sponsors someone has, the more credible their account is. As a result, people tend to often accept more sponsors because it is seen to make somebody's social influence seem more reliable or trustworthy, leading more people to become influenced. Therefore, it can also be assumed that sponsorships are more likely to ask for deals from people with a larger following and, as a result, those with a larger following continue to grow as such

7)  The standard for beauty remains as being a young face with smooth skin and plump, high cheekbones, long lashes and full lips, representing that of purity and links back to an image of youth. It is, of course, incredibly negative (not only but especially to women)

8) They are a positive for providing a role model and somebody to look up to, but also are negative because they often cause people to have unrealistic standards of beauty, create an ever-changing market for perfectionism that young people often become enamoured by, and have a lot of superficial desires and representations.
