Television: Industry Contexts — The BBC 1) Th e BBC's mission statement is to inform, educate and entertain. This means that it aims to provide information, support people and their learning, produce creative content, and uphold diversity and representation. 2) The BBC is funded by the government, meaning that it is paid for by the TV licence and is paid for by the people of Britain. The TV licence is currently £159 per year. Although other television companies rely on advertising, the TV licence is the only way that the BBC makes money, meaning it does not use advertising.  3) The BBC must provide balanced information, support the learning of people of all ages, produce creative output, have diverse content and reflect the United Kingdom, its culture and values to the world. 4) Regulation is the reviewing of a product to make sure that its content is not inappropriate or harmful.
